Unwritten Posts for the Unharvest

I have a draft from the late spring about why we have such a hard time getting spring turkeys (we don’t even go out for them in the fall anymore), but I was waiting until our last outing to finish it, and then we didn’t go back out. I can’t remember why, exactly, but I think it was getting light so early, we didn’t want to get up. In addition to the no hope thing—and that was even considering that we saw more and had more chances than we’ve had in years. The number one reason we have a hard time with turkeys is that we only hunt them in the forest. Not only are they hard to find in a large forest, but there is always a darned tree in the way.

Anyway, I had a few good photos and good explanations and good stories about last season, but then summer happened and I didn’t finish it. I’m saving it for next spring.

So I expected to skip right to summer muskie fishing, but then we had the worst summer ever. I caught one little one (33″) and Ted didn’t catch any!! That is the first time he never caught one, and it has us reconsidering devoting all our time to Chautauqua Lake next year, instead looking around for some other nearby options.

Anyway, I couldn’t even come up with a draft for a summer fishing post. At least I can show you my little one being measured, though, and one of Ted looking for one for himself:

So, here we are again at fall. I have my doe license so I can hunt deer in the early muzzleloader season in October. I’ve gotten three in a row with a muzzleloader, but you never know what might happen in that single week. Because I’m a senior, I can take my rifle the last few days, if I want to, but that’s not a guarantee—you have to actually see an antlerless dear.

Here’s hoping I have something to write soon. If not about deer, then about Missy’s bird adventures.
