Unfortunately, there is no Sunday hunting in PA, so for people working during the week, there are only the two Saturdays available. It’s an archaic restriction, but it appears to be difficult to change official minds on it.
I went not far from where I sat last week, sitting where my brother-in-law usually sits, just beyond what we call Don’s tree. I saw nothing at all, not even a squirrel. It was quiet enough to hear the proverbial pin drop (is that proverbial or just metaphorical?).
Turns out that the hunters I thought might drive back as far as we go and stir up the deer to move, did not show up. Not a one. Did I say it was quiet? My husband went down the hill and managed to see 5 or 6 deer, none legal bucks as far as he could tell. He even walked around to try to drive some my way, but it didn’t happen. At least it wasn’t too cold and I got some walking out of it.
We had to walk the last 1/2 mile on the logging road because of this precarious-looking tree that fell across the road recently. We decided not to test fate and get stuck back on the hill:
Here’s where I sat all day:
We might go back there next Saturday unless we can think of a place not overrun by hunters. I know, I know—I just complained that no one was moving the deer around. It’s complicated.
