Finally Cooling Down A Little

A cold front went through last night and it’s in the low 60’s today. Even though it feels cool compared to what we’ve had, it’s still not very cool for dog work. I had Missy out in the fields behind my house this afternoon getting back into whistle commands, and doing a little retrieving work. After about 30 minutes I was sweating and Missy was getting pretty hot.

Missy flushed a bonus rabbit. There are no birds in that area, but quite a few rabbits. I don’t mind at all that she flushes rabbits and chases them a short distance, but I never shoot them during hunting season. I don’t really want to reinforce the rabbit hunting. I used to shoot a lot of rabbits back when I had beagles, and they are very tasty, but I’ve lost my desire to both kill and clean them.

I’m still hoping to get to the mountains on Saturday morning to look for some grouse and woodcocks, but now they are calling for rain. So we’ll see if it pans out.
